the tea cup set...oh boy.
so before the move from hawaii, i was trying to sell these tea cups at a dollar each, including the saucer. i was missing 2 sets so i threw the box away and displayed 4 sets at my "apt sale" (b/c i didn't have a garage) and no one bought them. i ended up donating them to goodwill.well i'm in san francisco now and the other day, i noticed the matching sugar and cream holders on my mom's dining table. i told her i donated matching tea cups w/saucers to goodwill in hawaii. she pulls out this tea cup and saucer and asks, "did it look like this one?" and i'm like, "yes! that's the one! i had 4 sets." it turns out when she left hawaii she only packed the sugar and cream holders and 2 tea cups w/saucers. these were painted by a famous korean artist and they are antiques. the set of 6 tea cups w/saucers was $500!!!!! the sugar and cream holders were a set for another $100!!!!!
GHAAAAAAAA!!
aloha, the san francisco way!
this is my mom in front of a merchant stand at the aloha festival.no, not in hawaii, in san francisco.
is everyone moving to the bay area or something?
anyway, i asked a couple of the merchants a couple of questions...
me: where in hawaii are you guys from?
merchant 1: uh, we're not from hawaii.
me: where in hawaii is this business based out of?
merchant 2: actually, we're based out of san jose.
o...kay.....then.
the aloha festival in san francisco folks. ...60 degrees, windy, overcast, slightly drizzling. ...there's mango-shoyu chicken plates (the chicken is very burnt on the outside...i wonder if it's because they have to grill it forever to get the insides to cook in this cold weather). it comes with poke that looks like lomilomi, mac salad and 2 scoops of rice for $12. ...and there's shaved ice. ...and what would an aloha festival be w/out entertainment?...various hula halaus of different ages including little girls in hula skirts and bikini-like tops freezing their bottoms off, music artists dressed in their hawaiian paniolo outfits and the songs from lilo and stitch. very exciting. you should come check it out. yes you should.
